King's Quest VII ~ The Princeless Bride

Chapter 3: The sky is falling!

Back to Valanice now, trapped by that horrible iguana creature thing.  Give the prickly pear to him and he'll leave.  You can continue through the cave.  Go left and have a really long chat with Lord Attus (the stag).  He's been turned into a stag by Malicia, and Lady Ceres, Mother Nature, has been turned into the tree he's sitting beside.  Talk to him until you won't talk to him anymore, then click on the stake sticking into Ceres twice to gain Attus' permission to try and pull it out.  When you can't, go left again and up.  Cross the dry river by jumping over the stones and when you have a chance, use the basket on the spider and free the bird.  Go up and to the big gates.

This is the town of Falderal.  Talk to the guard, ignore what he says about what's on the other side of the gate, and go through the little door at the side.  Arch Duke Fifi le Yip Yap, fearless war-hound of Falderal (a poodle) will meet you just inside the gates.  Talk to him and use the comb on him to make him cry and let you stay in Falderal.  He'll tell you to take the Faux Shop with a grain of salt, and head back into the Town Hall.  Go into the china shop and talk to Fernando to learn about Treasure, his china bird, who was stolen from him.  Leave the shop and learn from the chicken that the sky is falling ... apparently.  Talk to the chicken and head right.  Watch the next little cut-scene and go over to the wagon.  Talk to the snake oil salesman to learn about the were-beast salve, and that he wants a magic statuette in return for it.  It's in the Town Hall.  Now turn your attention to the cage at the side of the wagon.  Take off the cloth, open the cage and talk to the bird until she agrees to go with you.  Take her back to the china shop and give her to Fernando.  You'll get a mask in return.  Leave the shop.  Put on the mask and knock on the Town Hall door.  A badger guard will come out, and admit you to the Arch Duke's birthday party.  :D

Talk to the Arch Duke to wish him a happy birthday (and taste the cake if you like), then slip through the curtain at the back of the room.  Go down the stairs first and keep going until you reach the door.  Try opening it, then open it again to actually go through.  Go to the third mirror along the wall and your reflection will pull you through it into the study.  Open the desk drawer and take the magic statuette.  Close the drawer and leave via the door on the right and again keep going.  Turn left, then go down, back out into the party.  Leave via the door on the right and watch the cut-scene in which the 'moon' falls into the pond.  Talk to the chicken.  Take the nickel from the mockingbird's nest.  Eat the salt crystals and go into the Faux Shop.  Give the mock turtle the nickle in return for a book about Falderal, then give him the mask in exchange for a rubber chicken.  Look at the chicken with the eye thing and pull out its tail feather (don't worry -- it won't feel it).  Leave the shop and go left all the way out of town.

Go down, down across the river, right, right past Lord Attus and down when you get to the two statues on either side of the river.  Go down through the cave and when you emerge from the gateway, go right until you get to the kangaroo rat's door.  Knock to bring him out and offer him the book to recieve a shepherd's crook.  Go left through the gateway, up through the cave, left, left past Attus, up, across the river and up to Falderal.  Enter the town through the little door again and go right to the pond.  Use the shepherd's crook on the green cheese ... er ... the moon, I mean, and you'll find yourself at the mercy of Arch Duke Fifi le Yip Yap and his badger guards.  Oh, dear.
