King's Quest VII ~ The Princeless Bride

Chapter 5: Nightmare in Etheria.

Valanice's trial continues.  You are found guilty of moon theft, impersonating a Falderalian, party crashing, sneaking, spying and appearing in public without fur, feather or skales -- yikes!  Thankfully, you are not doomed to spend the rest of your life in the jellybean mines of Wagga-Wagga Boing-Boing, on the Plain of Petulant Possums, on the Island of Ill-Natured Iguanas or counting every grain of birdseed in the land, as some of the other Falderalians suggest when the Arch Duke can't think of an appropriate sentence.  You have until sunset to put the moon back in the sky, or you'll be fed to a 300-pound hamster in the morning.  Since the volcano's about to erupt, the party is moved to the basement and you're shown outside to complete the sentence you've just been given.

Use the rubber chicken in the lower branches of the tree the mockingbird is in, then use the 'moon' with the chicken to put it back into the sky.  Arch Duke Fifi le Yip Yap will grant you a full pardon and return to hiding in the basement.  Go right and talk to the snake oil salesman and give him the magic statuette.  He'll give you your were-beast salve and tell you how to use it.  Go left and leave the town.  Go down, right and right again, to where you'll find the Rock Spirit.  Use the feather on his nose and have an exhaustive chat with him about how to set things right -- you need some sacred nectar and some sacred fruit.  Go left, left, down and down across the river.  Go right and right again past Attus.  Look at the flowers at the top left of the screen and hold out the pot to recieve some sacred nectar.  Pour it into the statue on this side of the river's pitcher thing to set the river flowing again and change Lord Attus back to his rightful form.  Watch him try and save Ceres, then go left.  Put the jackalope fur into the were-beast salve and use the salve on yourself to get past the bear.  Lord Attus will appear on the other side and take care of that plant creature for you.  Go left and out the gate into Ooga Booga to look for Rosella.

Go left and knock on Doctor Cadaver's door.  Have a chat to him and find out what you can.  When you're shown out, go left and up to encounter a dog.  Go down, right and right again.  If the elevator is not down, leave the screen and come back until it is.  Go up into the boys' home and take the bone the mummy elephant thing is holding.  Take the elevator back down and go left, left and up.  Give the bone to the dog and talk to him to get lots of important information about his master, Count Tsepish, his mistress, Lady Tsepish and the realm in general.  He'll also give you the medal from his collar.  Go down and give the medal to the woman in the black cloak -- Lady Tsepish.  She'll disappear.  Go right, right again and pick up the firecracker the boy drops.  Go left twice and put the firecracker in the lock on the Count's tomb to blow it open.  Go inside and open the coffin.  Look in it to find Count Tsepish's head.  Leave the tomb and stand on the path.  When Count Tsepish rides by, click the skull on him and the curse will be lifted.  Watch the long cut-scene in which Count and Lady Tsepish are reunited and Count Tsepish gives you his fife for the use of his horse, who will first take you to Etheria.  Ooooh ... it's so pretty!

Go right and up.  Play the harp strings in the following order: 1, 5, 6, 4, starting from the left and touch the bauble on the top to meet the Fates, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.  Talk to them until you're kicked out and go down and left.  Slide down the lower left rainbow to find yourself back in Ooga Booga.  Go up through the gate and left.  Knock on Doctor Cadaver's door.  Talk to him and he'll lend you his coffin to sleep in.  Click on it and watch the long cut-scene in which you travel to the Land of Dreams and find that Lady Maab has been frozen into a block of ice.  You'll wake up in Doctor Cadaver's office.  Leave the house, use the fife to summon Count Tsepish's horse.

Back in Etheria, go right, up and play the harp.  Click on the bauble to visit the Fates again.  Talk to them for more information and again you'll be kicked out.  Go down, right and all the way up to the top of the mountain.  Climb the little tree there and take some of the ambrosia.  Climb back down, go down, all the way down the mountain, then left and left again.  Slide down the lower right rainbow.  Put the ambrosia in the other statue's vase thing and take a pomegranate.  Cross the river and go left to where Attus is now resting by Ceres.  Use the pomegranate on the tree to restore Ceres to her rightful form.  Talk to her to discover that a crystal shaft filled with purest sunlight will thaw Maab, but you need to find a way to travel to the Land of Dreams while away, because you can't take any physical objects into the Land of Dreams.  Summon Count Tsepish's horse, then slide down the lower left rainbow.  Head right and around the back of Malicia's house.  Go through the hole Rosella dug, then duck back under the floorboard when you hear Malicia.  When Malicia and the dog leave, exit the hole into the house.  Take one of the crystals from the lamp and go back down through the hole.  Go up and summon Count Tsepish's horse.  Slide down the upper left rainbow.  Go up out of the desert, then go right and into the temple.  Use the crystal shaft on the sunbeam, then go out of the temple and summon the Count's horse to take you up to Etheria.

Go right, up and visit the Fates again.  This time they'll give you a dream catcher and tell you to visit their nephew, the Weaver of Dream, before they kick you out.  Go down, right and all the way up the mountain.  Try to go in the cave and when you're confronted with the nightmare, use the dream catcher on it to capture it, then enter the cave.  Talk to the Dream Weaver and show him the dream catcher to make him listen to you.  He'll weave a magical tapestry that will let you travel to the Land of Dreams while awake.  Leave the cave and use the tapestry.

When confronted with the nightmare, use the dream catcher on it to release the other one and they'll destroy each other.  Go down and you'll eventually come out of the water.  Go into the temple and use the crystal on Maab to thaw her.  She'll give you a bridle and tell you to capture the wind Scirocco.  The the Winds will find Lord Oberon and Lady Titania.  She'll send you back to the mountain in Etheria.  Climb it and stand behind the rocks just to the left of the cave entrance.  When Scirocco flies past, use the bridle on him to capture him, then watch the really long ending cartoon where the King of the Winds sends the other Winds to find Lord Oberon and Lady Titania.  Valanice will explain the situation to them.  You'll learn more about everything, then get ready for the final chapter.
