Hugh Jackman's wife tonight gave the Hollywood hunk her seal of approval as he brought the musical The Boy From Oz home to Australia.
Actor Deborra-Lee Furness walked the red carpet in support of Jackman, while he was busy backstage preparing for the opening night of the stage musical at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
"He's looking pretty damn buff ... pretty damn cute," Furness said.
"It will be very interesting to see when he actually takes his shirt off on stage tonight."
The first Boy From Oz production about the life of Peter Allen was staged in Sydney in March 1998 and went on to become the most successful new Australian musical.
Jackman took over the lead role when it opened on Broadway in October 2003.
American critics lauded Jackman's Broadway portrayal of Allen - the flamboyant boy from Tenterfield in NSW who helped define the disco era in the 1970s and '80s, before succumbing to AIDS in 1992.
Jackman and Furness have been in Australia for about a month as the hunky actor took part in heavy training sessions for the gruelling musical roadshow.
The Australian production, which also stars Chrissy Amphlett, Angela Toohey and Colleen Hewett, will include more than 40 shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, with each venue seating up to 10,000 people.
Celebrity guests including former prime minister Bob Hawke, Maggie Tabberer, Sharyn Ghidella, and Peter Allen's sister Lynne Smith and niece Bryden also walked the red carpet for tonight's premiere.
Furness admitted to more opening night nerves than her hip-shaking husband.
"I think I'm more nervous than he is," she said.
"But I've been through this a few times so I'm getting used to it.
"I just feel like Australia's really excited by it, it feels really special.
"It's Peter Allen at the Entertainment Centre where it was all at.
"Hugh is an Australian guy coming home for this show ... it's a part of Australian history."
More than 150 people work on stage and behind the scenes in the current Australian production, which has cost about $10 million.
