The first in the King's Quest series, and the first that I played.
You are Sir Graham, the bravest and most trusted knight in King Edward of Daventry's employ. His health is failing and he has no heir. He has summoned you to the castle to ask you to complete a very special quest. He asks you to go out into Daventry and recover the Three Great Treasures that have been stolen -- the Bottomless Treasure Chest, the Magic Mirror and the Shield that makes its bearer invincible. Succeed in this quest, and the Kingdom of Daventry will be yours to rule upon Edward's death. Sounds simple enough? There are problems.
You will meet many strange beings on your quest ... some will help you and some are not quite so friendly. The Chest is in the care of a giant who lives up in the clouds, the Mirror is in the clutches of a terrible dragon and the Shield is being guarded underground by the leprechauns. You'll also meet elves, fairies, dwarves, a witch, a troll, a humble woodcutter and his wife, and enchanter and many more interesting characters, some of whom would rather ... invite you to lunch than help you, but all of whom have something to say about you and your quest, whether it be helpful or not! Some will have things to give you that will aid you in your quest and some will just hinder you from retrieving the treasures before it's too late. So gather your wits about you and begin your quest.
There are also many locations for you to visit ... from Castle Daventry to scenic lakes, to a gingerbread house inhabited by a witch, to the clouds ... and even down a well! Not to mention those leprechauns underground. I haven't played the ORIGINAL version of this game, just the re-make, and I have to say that despite what others may think, I quite like the graphics. The puzzles aren't too difficult and there are a number of options as to how to complete them ... the more imaginative your solution to the puzzle, the greater your reward will be (that is, you'll receive more points)! Try it out with all the solutions and see all the differences. But be careful ... some solutions might NOT be the ones you want! Use your imagination (or my walkthru!) and you'll get all the points you can.
