The fourth in the King's Quest series, but the third that I played.

Now you step out of the hardened boots of King Graham and his son Alexander and into the soft slippers of his daughter, Princess Rosella.  Having escaped from Manannan and rescued his sister, Prince Alexander accompanies Princess Rosella back to Castle Daventry.  Old King Graham has now decided it's time to pass his famous adventurer's hat onto younger blood, since his whole family has given him great pride and joy.  He flings the battered hat towards his two children while Queen Valanice, always standing by his side, looks proudly on.

Suddenly, King Graham experiences a terrible squeezing pain in his chest!  He gasps and collapses to the floor as Valanice, you and your brother rush to his aid.  You help him to bed, where he lies weakly ... you know he is dying.  Grief finally overwhelming you, you run from the room.  As you sit weeping on Graham's throne, wishing aloud that there was something you could do to help him, a soft voice from the Magic Mirror asks if you really mean that.  You answer that yes, of course you do, and the voice from the Mirror tells you of a magic fruit that could cure your father.  You're much heartened by this news, but unfortunately there is more.  The voice, who by now you know to be Genesta, a good fairy, tells you that the fruit grows on a tiny tree in the land of Tamir, far from your home.  She can bring you to Tamir, but once she does, she can't send you back -- you have to help her first.  You agree, and in a few moments you stand on Tamir's beach, with a beautiful fairy flying slowly towards you.

Genesta explains her problem -- an evil fairy by the name of Lolotte has stolen her magic talisman.  If she doesn't get it back in the next 24 hours, she will die.  What's more, she can't send you back home to Daventry without it.  So you have to find the magic fruit that will cure your ailing father AND defeat Lolotte to get back Genesta's talisman.  Adventure abounds in the land of Tamir, as do the characters.  Dwarves, fairies, a unicorn, a whale, an ogre and his wife, a dolphin, Cupid, zombies, witches and the evil Lolotte and her son, Edgar, all await you!  Not ALL are COMPLETELY unfriendly ... though you might occasionally need some help!  It's quite a load for a young princess -- the fate of not one, but TWO lands rest on your slim shoulders.  Have you time to save both lands?

Explore many locations in Tamir, from castles to cottages, a crypt and a haunted house.  Make sure you search EVERYWHERE and go back to places you might think have no significance ... you never know who or what might appear.  The land of Tamir can be very dangerous, particularly at night, so be CAREFUL!  This is one of my favourites of the series, probably because it's the first one with a female main character, and it's the first to feature a night sequence!  There are lots of puzzles to solve and while you don't NEED to complete quite ALL of them, you'll get more points if you do.  So keep your eyes and ears open and pick up everything that's not bolted down.
